The course’s goal is to provide students with the skills and knowledge necessary to recognize and predict market trends as well as develop entrepreneur and retirement investment plans. Below you will find a synopsis which details the course requirements, routines, rituals and rules for this Economics course.

Grading Criteria

Your report card grades are based on the following scoring rubric below:

Course Category Weighted Percentage
of Overall Grade
Economics Class Participation 25%
Exams 25%
Homework 25%
Gateways 25%

Routines, Rules and Rituals

  1. Students must ALWAYS adhere to the BLS 5:
    • Be Prepared
    • Be Respectful (Be sure to follow the 100% Respect Guidelines)
    • Challenge Yourself
    • Be Accountable
    • Support your Community
  2. On Time/In class: Class begins when the bell rings. This does NOT mean that you enter class when you hear the bell. There is not enough time to go to the bathroom between classes so do NOT get in that habit. Only EXCUSED absences will be a reason for making up missing work.
  3. Attendance: Students automatically fail the course if they 5 or more unexcused absences during any quarter. Students must bring a note excusing an absence within 2 days of their return to class.
  4. Do Now: The do now will begin at the bell and will be collected 3-5 minutes later. If you do not finish, you lose points. If you are late or absent, you will earn a zero on your do now. In the case of an EXCUSED absence, you may come after school to make up the do now.
  5. One Microphone: Students are encouraged to participate in this Regents Prep class. However, during instruction time, students should not be talking and should focus their attention on their teacher. Whenever a teacher or student is talking, we will enforce the “one mic” rule, allowing only one person to speak at a time. Failure to follow this rule can cause students to lose points on their participation grade AND can result in detention.
  6. Bathroom: Students may use the bathroom when the pass is available. NO ONE may leave the class before the Do Now, Mini-Lesson and Class Examples are done. You may NOT leave class during the first 10 minutes or the last 10 minutes of class. Any student who misuses the pass runs the risk of having this privilege revoked. Any student who decides to leave without permission will see a 5 point deduction in their final grade for this infraction.
  7. Progress Reports: Progress reports will be given out periodically. These reports will show your current grade and any outstanding work that can be made up. Please note that missing work can ONLY be made up in office hours and within /b>ONE week of the progress report. Progress reports that are sent home will need to be signed by a parent or guardian and returned to Mr. Eaton.

Students must make up missing exams on their time or during office hours. All class projects will have due dates announced well ahead of time.
